    About Me

    Oliver Schibli

Oliver Schibli is a Swiss abstract artist working under the name Art Schibli. His paintings are built from process rather than plan — gold leaf, marble dust, epoxy, and acrylic layered, sealed, and interrupted until a composition emerges that was never fully sketched out in advance.

    Training

Born in Baden, Switzerland, in 1977, Schibli trained for four years as a sign maker — an apprenticeship that taught him calligraphy, gold leaf application, and the material discipline that still runs through his abstract work today. For years he painted alongside a conventional career, using every free hour on his craft.

    2014 — A turning point

In 2014, Schibli left Switzerland for Asia to work on his painting full time. Over the following years he developed the gestural, material-driven language that now defines his practice, working long hours and experimenting across materials — from canvas to art-infused furniture — before returning to Switzerland to establish his own studio.

    Recognition

In 2016, Schibli won the International Emerging Artist Award at Art Dubai, where his winning piece was exhibited to a wide audience. His work has since been shown in Zurich, Los Angeles, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

Cosmic Syntax — the work today

Schibli treats the cosmos as a language without letters — a structure of flow, fracture, and light that painting can only translate, never fully capture. His ongoing Cosmic Syntax body of work moves across three registers of that language: unfiltered gesture in the early Emotion Work paintings, fluid structure held still in the marble and champagne-chalk pieces, and gold leaf as literal light in Alchemy and the Sun & Moon Disc series. Each canvas reads differently depending on the light and the viewer. His black-and-white works strip the palette back further, relying on contrast and texture alone to carry the composition.

Every original work is issued with a Verisart web3 blockchain certificate of authenticity.
